Hi folks,
This is Joseph, one of the developers for BrailleNote Users website.
Just wanted to inform you of some site changes and notes on what'll
happen to BrailleNote PBWorks:

Site changes:
* Connecting to the Internet (under Useful Articles): A number of
anchors (same page links) were added to allow people with differing
KeySoft versions to find out how they can configure internet
connectivity on their BrailleNote. This includes using wireless
connection under KeySoft 9.1. Also, at the end of the article, a link
is provided for setting up an email account and a link on connectivity
dictionary is also availible.
* Technical: I've been trying to improve the visibility of our site to
search engines. Thus, I've been doing some code optimizations and
using Google Webmaster tools to improve our site in search engine
rankings.

Status on BrailleNote PBWorks:
I'm sure some of you are coming to our new site through BrailleNote
PBWorks's front page (braillenote.pbworks.com). For a while, the link
will be availible, but after next year, BrailleNote PBWorks itself
will be gone (along with the redirect link). This was a necessary yet
painful decision on the developers' part. A number of factors
contributed to this decision, chiefly problems with editing content
using the editor provided on the site, inability to customize the
detailed workings of the site and so forth. Hence, in May, some of us
(including myself and Alex H) got together and decided that we needed
to start our site from scratch, using the code written by users so the
site can work well with BrailleNote's web browser (which was our prime
target audience). Hence, we (myself, Alex and a former list member)
decided to get a hosting service, write the site's content based on
latest BrailleNote PBWorks and make the site work not only with
BrailleNote, but also with PC/Mac/desktop Linux users and users of
other mobile platforms; hence, the BrailleNote Users site was born -
and I'm safe to say that we do have technical foundations from where
we can add new content based on your (viewers) feedback and allow
users themselves (via email at the moment) to write content, thus
contributing to improvements to the site. In the end, the devs' goal
is to create a place like Applevis where users can upload useful
content for other BrailleNote users, something we couldn't dream of
with PBWorks interface.
Hope this explains our situation. If you have any comments about the
BNUsers site, feel free to contact the admin at
[email protected]. Thanks.
Cheers,
Joseph
