You don't pair like normal to use braille. First, tell the iPod to forget the apex (in bluetooth settings), and remove pairing with the iPod from the apex's connectivity menu > bluetooth. Next, hit t from the main menu, press b, then press enter. You are now done with the apex. On the iPod, go to settings, general, accessibility, voice over, braille. Assuming you haven't changed your apex's name, the iPod will see the apex after a few seconds. Double tap the apex in the list of braille displays, then, on the screen that appears asking for a code, enter 0000 (that's four zeros). Once done, find the "pair" button, in the upper right of the screen, and double tap it. You have a few chances to do this (it will fail after about 10 seconds, so be quick), but you may be locked out after 3 unsuccessful tries. If that happens, just tell the iPod to forget the apex again, and start over.
