Hi all, Does anyone have a good means of describing how to seamlessly (as much as possible) utilize KeyBase files with MS Excel? I would like to create spreadsheets in both programs and also use the BN during class, which then would need to be transferred to the Excel file for updating and printing. I've not been successful in printing KeyBase files either.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the BrailleNote! Continuing from last Friday's report on test between TeamTalk and Conversation Station users, I'd like to present a short survey on which chat service to use and what method should we usin for conducting future BrailleNote Chat series. To fill out the survey, please answer each question below and give your thoughts on each choice. To submit it, please send an email to [email protected] with your responses: 1. Chat service: A number of people said TeamTalk would be a good chat service to use; however, some say that there are people who'd like to join the chat but doesn't own a computer apart from BrailleNote family of products. Thus, a proposal for using a phone chat service in conjunction with TeamTalk has been proposed, with tests conducted on Friday with mixed results. Should we: use both TeamTalk and Conversation Station, TeamTalk only, Conversation Station only or other audio chat services such as Skype? When answering, consider the following conditions: participation by international users, recording facilities for archival purposes, considerations for those who might not have a computer and overall logistics. 2. Chat conduct methods: Some say that a live, realtime chat (where people can add their thoughts while others are speaking, as using TeamTalk) adds more connected atmosphere, while others suggest that people take turns asking and answering via audio (in case of Talking Communities). Should we have: realtime chats such as via Skype or TeamTalk or controlled chats (where one person at a time would speak using a dedicated audio key) such as Talking Communities? 3. Dedicated group just for BrailleNote Chats: at one point during last week's test, a participant suggested creating a dedicated user group just for BrailleNote chats. Some say it could be useful for organizing chats by other users, while others noted that it could add to confusion and it "defeats" the overall purpose of audio chat series. Should we: create a separate user group for things just related to BrailleNote Chats? If so, what should its name be, its list topics and other issues. And any additional comments you may have. I and other test participants would be grateful if the users on this forum posts their thoughts on these matters. Your comments will be used as guidelines for improving future BrailleNote Chats. Looking forward to your responses. Thanks for your considerations. This means that one can record some performance on an electronic instrument and save it in machine form (not wave format). Apparently a lister wrote to me in private that BrailleNote can play MIDI files (usual extensions being either midi or mid). He says he found a mid file that plays on the BrailleNote and asked if I can test it. Here's the result: * BrailleNote does list mid files as a media file. * The information on this mid file does not say that its a machine audio file - it simply says "mid" when the file info was obtained. * When attempting to play this mid (and other mid's that I have), it gave me the following error: "cannot open (path). `erify that the path exists." To test this feature, click the following link to download a mid piece: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080702202315/uncyclopedia /images/f/f9/Pp13.mid You might want to copy this URL using block commands, as it spans two lines. Download it to your BrailleNote, then navigate to the folder where the mid has been saved and press ENTER on the mid file - you should get the error message, or the mid will start playing (depending on the model, I presume; when you do hear it, I'm sure you'll recognize the tune). Cheers, Joseph P.S. If you have a computer, try downloading the mid to the computer first, listen to it and transfer it to the BN to see if you can listen to the file on the BN. ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Sun, 01 Jan 2012 23:36:59 -0600 From: John Patrick Houck <[email protected]> Subject: re: [Braillenote] Media Player: Apex "recognizes" MIDI files but cannotplay them To: Joseph Lee <[email protected]>, Braillenote <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1; format=flowed Hello Joseph, midi files play just fine on my MPower with Keysoft 8 build 21. I have already listened to Alex's excellent podcast describing how to do this. I have turned Bluetooth on on the BrailleNote as well as made sure the Braille Terminal port was Bluetooth. Bluetooth is turned on on the iPod, however the iPod does not recognize the BrailleNote. When I try to pair the iPod with the refreshabraille 18, it is recognized instantly. I had the refreshabraille paired with the iPod at one time, but I told it to forget that device. Can someone tell me if I am missing a step or whatever else the problem could be? Sincerely, John ----- Original Message ----- From: Joseph Lee <[email protected] To: [email protected] Date sent: Sun, 01 Jan 2012 20:20:42 -0800 Subject: [Braillenote] Media Player: Apex "recognizes" MIDI files but cannotplay them Hi folks, The following note may seem interesting to some of you (especially musicians): Intro: MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) allows a computer to play sounds based on machine rules produced by some sequencer. ___ Replies to this message will go directly to the sender.
