Josh: You are right.
After setting up your APEX as a Braille display, Go to the settings manager. Inside the manager, under Braille display, you will find settings for how you want the Braille input to be formatted. Contracted Braille is one of the settings. This setting also allows you to set whether your display can respond to output from JAWS or just receive the output. Use the F1 help within the Settings manager to find out the use of these settings. I am currently using this system, as I write this post.
