Hi Brett,

I've never had this happen on an Apex (that I can remember) but it definitely happened quite a few times on an mPower for me, with .doc and .rtf files. What type of file was it that went blank? And have any different types of files been affected for you in the past?

When I asked Maurice Sloane (who works for HumanWare here in New Zealand and is the admin person for this list) about it last year, he said something along the lines of: In these types of documents, the format markers (which look like $fm) exist in pairs. And the BN doesn't like it if you only delete one format marker of the pair.

I don't know.. I just tried to work with anything important in keyword native files after that (on the mPower), even if it meant losing some formatting.

I'm pretty sure your lost data can't come back, sorry.

That probably isn't much help but that's all I know about this I'm afraid ...

Aine

Subject: [Braillenote] sudden loss of data in a file

Hi, I have had this unfortunate incident happen to me a few times
with my BrailleNote Apex. Most recently today, I was working on
a file that involved frequent switching to and from KeyWord,
KeyBook, and KeyPlus. I do back this file up periodically.
Today though, when going back to KeyWord from KeyPlus, the file
all of a sudden was blank. Everything in it was gone. As i
said, I do back this file up daily. However, I made some
significant changes that are now as far as I know lost
permanently. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Even
though I think the answer is no, is there any hope of getting the
content of the file back? Is there anything that will prevent
this from happening in the future?
Thanks, Brett Wilhelm
