Yes, there is a text version that you can download to a PC if you have one.  
However, the vnqt has its own self-contained manual that you can use.  From the 
options menu, press h to get into the user guide.  You can then select the 
table of contents by pressing t, or the index by pressing i, and from there 
select your points of interest.

To go online, if you have version 4.01 or higher, you need nothing more than a 
connecting phone jack cord.  The vn has its own self-contained modem.  It is 
possible to connect to the net via ethernet card or cell phone, but if you do 
not have these options at your disposal, or just don't care to spend the money, 
using the internal modem is perfectly fine.  HTH, Laura
