In short, a Mac address is a unique number assigned to every ethernet card so the MAC address of the card in the braille note is different from the address of the card in your pc. When your cable modem was installed it was most likely set up to except your pc's MAC address and nothing else. Cable operators do this to prevent just any old pc from being plugged into there networks. Hope this helps. Doug
