Ah, the difference in articles, little words that are so important!
"A scanner" as opposed to "The Scanner" makes a difference.  I figured
this out after I sent my msg.  Sorry for the confusion I generated.
Have a friend whose motto is, "Why be helpful when you're not.".
Seems I've disregarded his sage advice.  Thanks for the clarification.
