Paul,

It depends really which type of file you're trying to export. You didn't give
enough details but I'm going to make two guesses and hopefully one of them will
nail the problem, or at the very least, inform you of the limitations of the
Export File option. Otherwise, post again and tell us the file type of the
source and destination document.

First off, in version 5.0, there is a bug in the Export File option where .brf
files being exported to ANY text document type results in a file with no text
but just new line markers and spaces. This seems to be the closest to what
you've described. If this is it, then go into Keyword first and create a
Keyword Braille document.
When you are placed at the top of the blank file, enter the Block Commands Menu
and press I to insert a file. Select the .brf file you wish to export. I'm
suggesting that you use the Insert File option, rather than saving the .brf
file as a Keyword Braille document, because this will preserve the format
(extra spaces, hard returns, page markers).
Still, check the options in the Format Menu to be sure that all settings are
configured the way you want them to be. You can then export the Keyword
Braille file to the text document type you prefer.

Another possibility is that you're exporting a Microsoft Word or Rich Text
Format file with links and tables or non-simple formatting (e.g., spacing
varies to have some text aligned or positioned differently, or text appears in
special font, as hyperlinks, etc., etc.). KeySoft cannot handle complicated
formatting like that and though some text will appear in the document resulting
from the export, there will be parts that are missing which are replaced by
spaces and new line markers.
If this is it, and if you have a computer, it would be better that you save
such files as plain text (.txt) before loading into the BN and exporting as
plain Braille or some Keysoft Braille type.

OF course you cannot export a document of a file type that is not readable in
Keysoft in the first place, like .xls, .pdf, .pps, etc. OK, I hope that covers
it, but if it doesn't, then post again and give more detail on what you're
trying to do.

HTH,
Roselle
