Jim,

Make sure that the files being transferred from the Braille 'n Speak to the
BrailleNote have extensions. If they are supposed to be read in computer
Braille, give them a .txt extension, and if they are to be read in grade 2
Braille, give them a .brf extension.

This will 1) tell the BrailleNote how to treat the contents of the files and
prevent it from reading the contracted Braille entries as computer Braille, and
2) let you access document options like using line or paragraph format when
opening and saving the file (select line format to retain the
carriage-returns), and the extended character set (select MS-DOS if you entered
some characters using the ALT commands on the Braille 'n Speak). When you open
these files in Keyword for the first time, you will be asked to review these
options.

When you've checked the file and it reads fine, you can exit and save it as a
Keyword type Braille or text document (which I recommend). To do this, reply
yes to the prompt you get after exiting a file you have modified. If you did
not modify the file but wish to get that prompt to convert it to a Keyword
document, press SPACE with X (READ with X) twice to enter and exit the Review
Mode.

On the other hand, if you wish to keep the files as they are, but do not want
to get that prompt every time you exit the file after revising it, type S to
suppress prompt in response to the query of saving it as a Keyword document.

HTH,
Roselle
