Hi Lisa and list,
If you have a BT model, press O with spacebar for options, then the letter
P. This shows what percentage one has left on the battery. Simply use
your BN till you start getting battery low messages. Check the percentage
on the battery with what I mentioned earlier. If it shows from zero to 10
percent left, it probably should be charged. If the gage is inaccurate, it
is probably a good idea to use the I'm talking till the battery goes flat
feature. Once the battery is charged, go into the support information mode
by pressing spacebar with O, spacebar with I. Press the letter A. You
will find out whether the gage is accurate or inaccurate. If inaccurate,
use your BN till you get battery low messages, then charge. Usually that
brings the battery gage to accurate. I never use the I'm talking till the
battery goes flat feature. I simply use my BN. I tend to think if I don't
use my BN often, I may need to use that feature. If I use my BN often, I
don't worry about that feature. Exercising the braille display does just
that! I wouldn't do that to drain your battery. Enjoy your BN! That
really drains the battery especially if you use it on battery a great deal
as I do. Another way to drain the battery quickly is place a storage card
in the unit. This tends to drain the battery more quickly!

Hello Listers,
I have a couple questions about calibrating the battery.
1. I tried calibrating the battery using the exercise display item in the
support information mode. Apparently checking to see how long the battery
has been draining is not possible with the exercise the Braille display
option. I tried pressing space several times and got nowhere.
2. Then I tried calibrating the battery with the I'm talking until my
battery goes flat option. How long is this process supposed to take? I
left my BN in this drain mode for over 14 hours and it had only gotten
down to 42 percent. I quit the process because I didn't know what to do.
3. I think it would be nice if when the user presses space to find out
how long the battery has been in the drain mode it should tell the user
what the percentage is like 42 percent or whatever so the user has a clue
how long the battery has left in discharging.
4. It would be nice if it said somewhere in the User's Guide the average
amount of "^ it takes to calibrate the battery.
Thank you for reading, for your help, and your time. Have a wonderful
weekend everyone.
Lisa
