Hi, riana. Thanks for that explanation. I did get them all translated as
key word text files finally. I don't really want to edit in braille since I
have a qt and I don't like that message that always appears whenever you
open a keyword braille file that tells you this is a braille file and must
be edited in braille.
If I need to transfer them to someone, I usually save them out as rtf files
anyway.
Thanks again.

Paul,
As far as I know, keyword files are supposed to be smaller than especially
MS Word files, but apart from that, there was a known bug in keysoft
versions up to keysoft 5's release, relating to large files, which partly
disappeared or became corrupted when edited and the bug was more evident in
Ms Word files. Furthermore, mS WORD DOCUMENTS FROM VERSION 2000 AND
UPWARDS, SOMETIMES DO NOT OPEN IN OUR UNITS AND ONE GETS THE MESSAGE: 'DLL
CLASS NOT FOUND'
When one presses reset, the file usually opens after that.
Keyword files are said to be more stable, but they could only be read with
the vn or bn and you have to transfer them as other types if you want to use
them on a pc. That should not be a problem however, as one has the option
to e.g send a Keyword file as an attachment file of different type and it
works well, as long as you use one of the available types in the
braillenote's option list.
I have the whole bible [KJV[ in key word text on a cf card, and it takes
about 5 mb.
Incidentally, 64 of the books are .brf files and the other two are txt
files. The keyword .brf files take less space than the keyword .txt files,
but I believe the latter is still about the size of an ordinary txt file.
I convert everything stored on my unit to keyword and the advantage to
convert to a keyword braille file rather than to a keyword text file, is
that you do not have to use computer braille when editing a braille file,
but must when editing a keyword txt file.
However, Roselle suggested that if you want to inkprint a file, it's safest
to do your final editing before printing, in a keyword text file. i HAVE
NOT DONE IT YET, BUT i ALSO REMENBER SOMEONE MENTIONING THAT WHEN ONE PRINTS
AN mS WORD FILE FROM OUR UNITS, THAT THE FORMATTING IS NOT ALWAYS RETAINED.
Hth and regards
Riana

Subject: [Braillenote] keyword or another file type to store
Hi, Everyone.
someone once told me that keyword files were much larger than their doc or
rtf counterparts. As far as I can tell, the only reason for storing as a
keyword file is so you can set bookmarks or place markers.
With small files, book marks or place markers might be an idea, but with
something large like the bible, it isn't feasible until we can do bookmarks
by number rather than letter. So, What do you all think?
Is it better to store as docs, rtf's txt, etc instead of just converting
everything to keyword files? Would it be a better use of disk space to do
so? Do keyword files load any faster than other types?
Thanks.
