Hi Richard, I always experienced your problem with freeing database space BEFORE I installed version 5. After the upgrade, however, I have not come across that one yet. Anyway, I believe you've found the work-around for that one. You must do a simple reset first, then free your database space. I cannot explain whathe the message means, and there are actually two of them, the other being "Cannot access that file when it is being used by another process" which I likewise used to get when backing up files using the Backup option in the Utilities Menu without resetting the unit first, but like I said, I no longer experience that now.
As for your second problem, I have come across that as well when downloading a public domain book that was zipped. When I tried to navigate to the problem file, it's name was pk* where * is the multiple character wildcard that was, strangely enough, part of the file name which was not the name I gave the downloaded book in the first place. Further, I could not properly rename its extension with .bks because even if it was changed to something like book.bks, the real extension was still .zip (book.bks.zip) since when I press SPACE with I on the renamed book, the BN doesn't say it's a Bookshare book but a zip file. Therefore, I think the problem is not with unpacking it but with downloading it from the web to the BN. However, this happens to specific files, not really randomly, so I cannot say if the bug is with Keyweb or with the file in the source website. This is one of the instances when a BN user should be thankful to have a computer. Those who don't would need to request help from friends who do have a PC.
