(question) > How quickly does the ScannarR become accustomed to your voice? (answer) immediately. (question) Why do you speak into a microphone instead of input the information on a keypad or something? (answer) Microphone is inbuilt and is for you to give a subject line only of the paper which is being scanned. it is also for if you ever wanted to retrieve that paper from the scannar'r which in itself is a computer. > > 2. Does the Scannar'r come with a manual in Braille or other alternative formats? (answer) yes it comes in braille and is also on the scannar'r itself, which I scanned on to my braille note so that I could do a task switch if needs be for research if braille copy was not with me at the time. > > 3. Does the Scannar'r come out with new updated versions to make the ScannarR better at OCR? Not sure what you mean here, but at one time my scannar'r had to have a new tube in and I noticed the updated version had been installed, but what I can say is that the scannar'r I have has been used throughout the updated versions of the keysoft , so no problem there. > > 4. Does the ScannarR have the ability to change things like read in columns change the contrast etc. (answer) Yes the scannar'r reads in column mode, paragraphs or line modes etc. It reads coloured paper easily and I have not had to change any density at all. It even reads things if on an angle! > > 5. Does the ScannarR come with specific cables to hook it up to the Braillenote? Yes it comes with its own little cable which plugs into the serial port (the little one at the far left of the back of braille note) > > 6. Can you use the Braillenote while scanning so the Braillenote can read what the ScannarR shows? (answer) you read what it scans first then if you decide to save it you press the appropriate buttons on scannar'r which then ask you if you wish to send to your braille note and after pressing the correct buttons on scannar'r you hear a little burp and hey presto its in your braille note. it then shows up in your bn as a document number in the reader folder which it creates if not already created, as numbers and is in text format which if you want can be translated into keyword. > > 7. What do you personally use the Scannar'r for? I use it every day to read my mail, letters and invoices, read a couple of books which I scanned but don't do much scanning as I have many books and magazines in braille. > > 8. Does the ScannarR just do typewritten documents like can it scan handwritten documents? [answer) Most scanners cannot read hand writing in fact I don't know of any but I must just say that I put a hand written document on the scannar'r and it read enough for me to get the jist of it, as it was in very neat Capital block letters. > > 7. If you scan a book on the Scannar'r can you have it somehow scan the pages of the book like you manually turn the pages and it scans them and then later it goes through the input process? (answer) yes you can do it either way by scanning then when ever it suits you, then put into the braille note. > > 8. Have you had previous experiences with others scanners? If so which ones and how do whose compare to the ScannarR? (answer) I have used the Kurzweil stand alone reading edge for the past 10 years > > and I think it is just a matter of moving on to later models. I only have the braille note and no other computers and if I can use the scanner and braille note together and I am no young chick, then you will find it a breeze to use. > > Hth Sylvia. > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > >From: Lisa Ehlers <[EMAIL PROTECTED] > >To: Braillenote List <[EMAIL PROTECTED] > >Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 19:57:08 +1000 (GMT-10) > >Subject: re: [Braillenote] scannr > > >Hi Sylvia, > >I have some questions about the ScanR. > >1.
