Hi Lisa: If the two hearing impaired people are in the same room, the BN could be used as a tty. All they would need to do is use the same BN and after person number one writes on it, then person two gets to read it. Then person two can type and person one can read. As long as the deaf person knows braille, you have got it made.

Hi Maria, A TTY is a text telephone which allows hearing and/or speech impaired individuals to make phone calls. Messages are typed on a keyboard (that is very similar to a computer) and appear on a print screen. I happen to use a TTY equipped with a Braille display. Some TTYs also have an enlarged readout and/or different colored screens for those with low vision. Hope this answers your question! <smile> Lisa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maria Kristic" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Braillenote List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, March 16, 2004 11:22 AM Subject: [Braillenote] What is a TTY? Hi Lisa and Frank, While we're on this topic, and please forgive my ignorance, I was wondering exactly what a TTY was. I know I've read about it a little online and in magazines for the visually impaired, but I'm still a little unclear of what it is, what it involves, and what it does. Since both of you were suggesting this for the BrailleNote, I was just wondering what that would mean in terms of the BrailleNote's capabilities. Just curious, and thanks a lot.
