Of course, you can save it, and then use the "find and replce" feature 
(backspace with F) and take all of that stuff out.  You can't do anything to 
the E-mail, while it's in the "InBox, because, when you try, you get the "file 
is protected" message.  You might tell the person that then can send their 
messages as "plain text" messages from their PC.  However, forwarded messages 
always seem to contain that "greater-than" stuff.  It's a greater-than average
