The "heavy Braille machine" the article referred to must have been a Perkins brailler. And the girl must have been talking about math braille. I have always loved braille, but I absolutely hate Nemeth code. When I looked at a book used by people to transcribe math into Nemeth code, I didn't remember learning what most of the symbols were. And I can understand why there is no back translation for Nemeth code. Even my beloved Duxbury can't translate braille algebra into print. That's why the BN can't, either. In my opinion, Nemeth code makes learning algebra, geometry and all of the higher math even harder.
I think both PDI and Duxbury are working on the problem of a back translator from braille to Nemeth. And they'll have to do the same thing for other math codes, tfor people living in other countries, oo! Terri Pannett, Amateur Radio call sign KF6CA. Army MARS call sign AAT9PX, California
