First of all, I would have him send himself an email, to make sure the smtp part is working. If it says unknown password, I would go back into the setup options, and even rewrite my password. Sometimes, it does help to do a reset with dots 1-2-3 held down, or with a VoiceNote S D F and reset. HTH
