Hi, folks:
Well, here I am, wearing my curmudgeon hat again. (That word is not in the
BN's spell-checker.) I think that this discussion about spelling is, while,
perhaps, interesting, not very profitable, and, certainly, not BN-RELATED.
I've read a lot of writing in my day, and I've found that there's no such thing
as a perfect speller. Why, you can look on the Internet, and find some
outrageous spellings on some otherwise interesting web sites.
I do not believe that people are "lazy" about spelling. They genuinely believe
that they're spelling the word correctly. They shouldn't be called out, on the
list, for errors in spelling.
I should like to propose that PDI adopt the following rule of conduct for the
list; to whit: If anyone has an issue with another person, regarding a post,
that person is not to be mentioned by name, and the correction should be done
in a civil, kind manner. Anything else should be regarded as "flaming" and
that person should be warned.
This is a wonderful list. It should, however, be what it's supposed to be: a
forum for questions and answers about the PDI family of products. It shouldn't
be Grammar 101. If you want to correct people's punctuation or spelling,
become a teacher, and correct away!
Sorry, folks; don't mean to spout off, but this isn't right.
Well, thanks for reading this. God bless. Bob and Maxy-wax
