Hi Kat:

With the DBT software, symbols like "at" "right-brace" "greater-than" etc are 
spelled out.  In the case of the at, the word is also displayed along with the 
symbol.

It takes some getting used to, but trust me, you shouldn't notice it after 
awhile.
