The problem with telling people who want modern hardware to get a PK is that
there is no voice only equivalent to the pk. Many people don't have the serious
money it will cost to buy a pk. Plus, there is also no
qwerty variant, probably because the unit is too small to house a decent qwerty
keyboard. I feel that the critique of the outdated port compliment of the
bn./vn is right on point, as is the critique of the slow processor.
People who have gotten the pk have all commented on how much faster the gps
application runs on the pk as compared with the bn/vn. I appreciate Pulse
Data/Humanware's commitment to customers in trying to
squeeze every bit of useful life out of the old hardware before moving on. But
in this case, I as someone who would seriously consider the product, but for
its age and the fact that there is no voice only equivalent in
the more modern product, feel that its time for a new, modern replacement for
the venerable bn/vn platform. I can't afford to lay out several thousands of
dollars for the braille display part of this technology. mUch as I
acknowledge that it would be good to have, its quite simply too expensive for
me to justify that purchase. I'd also like to see an alternative to the keynote
speech offered in a future version, but only if such an offering
didn't introduce sluggishness into the unit's operation.
