As a firm believer in PDI, I am not sure if I agree with some of your points raised in your message to the BN list. However, different people have different opinions, so you keep yours' and I'll keep mine. There are some things wrong with the BN, where is USB? Where is IM? where is choice of speech synth? Where is full synchronisation? Where is Blue Tooth? where is scanning? Where is the open source BN? But on the PacMate, where is the intuitive style we see in our BrailleNotes? Where is a smaller unit? where is support for multiple speech synths? where is multi-lingual capabilities? Where is PCMCIA card support? And I bet that's not all?
