Hello list,
I brought my BN down to my computer desk which is very near the router. I
placed my PCMCIA adapter and Ambicom card into the side slot and reset my
BN so it would recognize the card. Being near my router allowed me to
connect to a web site and download my Email.
When the card was in the side slot while near the router, I had a signal
strength of minus 38 DBM. When I placed the Ambicom card in the back flash
card slot, the signal strength was minus 27 DBM when I was near the router.
Placing the Ambicom card in the back slot may be the difference for making
a connection to your network. I understand how the side slot is very
convenient for sliding the card in or out, but the Ambicom card doesn't
function to its ultimate performance when in the side slot. It works
better in the back flash card slot. When I was in my small bedroom
upstairs, I couldn't connect to a web site or download Email at all when
the card was in the side slot. The signal strength there was minus 59
DBM. When the card was in the back flash card slot, the signal strength
was minus 51 DBM and I was able to connect to a web site and download Email
from that small upstairs bedroom.
I doubt that one is harming anything when the card is in the side slot. I
do think the card isn't getting the operating voltage it needs for ultimate
functionality when in the side slot. I'm convinced the card works much
better in the back flash card slot. Perhaps Reggie should give this a try
to see if a better connection can be had.
It will be interesting to see what others of you find out by comparing the
two card slots.
