I have had the same problem, where the Braille display wouldn't operate. I
eventually got it repaired, for a fraction of the cost it would have taken to
buy a new BrailleNote, even an 18 cell unit. I found a work-around; I drained
the battery completely, using the "talking until the battery goes flat" option
in the support information mode. This option can be accessed by pressing f
from the support information mode. Then, when my BN's battery was completely
drained, I charged it fully. Sometimes the Braille display would decide to
operate. Although this method did not prove successful every time, it worked
often enough to use the unit until I could send it in.
Again, I would talk with tech support and find out the approximate cost for
repairs before making any solid plans to buy a new machine.

Subject: [Braillenote] braille display not working

Hi
Yes the front thumb keys appear to be on. however nothing happens when i press
any of the tumb keys. i tried the dot 3 while turning on the unit nothing
happened except the bn said braille display not operating when the unit turned
on.
I am getting ready to figure out how to purchase a new Braillenote because I
think that is easier than paying for a hardware agreement plus all new Braille
cells which I'm guessing the unit needs.
I am willing to try other ideas if anyone has them I am just willing to face
the hard sad truth that I will need to either pay for serious repairs or buy a
new Braillenote.
Lisa
