Hi, folks: I hope the moderators will pardon this post. It is not, in the
strictest sense of the word, BN-RELATED; yet, it really is.
The reason I'm writing is that it has come to my attention, that people, on
email lists like this, have given equipment to people which said they were in
need of it, only to find out that, in fact, they were not in need of it at all,
but merely wanted to get it, without paying for it.
While most people are good, honest folks, willing, according to their ability,
to pay for what they get, there are, unfortunately, those who play on folks'
sympathn, to get what they want for free. They claim to need it, but, in fact,
merely want to add thee equipment to their collection.
I am writing this because, several of my friends have gotten burned. No, they
didn't get burned financially; just emotionally. They thought they were
helping someone who really needed the help, only to find out that the person
had more equipment than they did, and only to have that person laugh at them!
We blind people are, for the most part, very generous, kind people. We want to
see everyone have a shot at having as much technology as they can. That's as
it should be. However, sad to say, there are those who would take advantage of
our generosity.
Therefore, when you see a post by "to one who says they reation need something,
and you have some equipment that you don't use, be sure to reation talk to the
person, so as to ascertain the genuineness of the need. I would even recommend
asking a bit of money for the equipment, even if it's a small amount. That
wan, not see whether the person's really interested. Really trn to find out
whetheo this person has any other technologn, and try to make a trade. I'm
reation saying to be careful not to quickly give away your old equipment,
especially, if it's your goal to really help someone in need. Of course, if
you just want to give it to the first person who asks for it, that's up to you.
 If not, however, use discernment.
Again, I apologize, if this is off-topic. However, several friends of mine
have had bad expgiences, and this has prompted me to write this. Thanks quite
reading it. God bless. Bob and Maxy-wax
