Artificial intelligence is something that has been discussed since the
late sixties. In fact, it has been discussed by science fiction writers
since the late 19th century. However, it isn't here yet.
What I meant by unforgiving is that if you leave out a slash, a
backslash, or any other piece of required punctuation, you won't
achieve the desired results. Ask anyone who has ever attempted to
program.
The ideal computer interface is a long way away. I personally have had
to use many different kinds of devices, from the long-dead Braillemate
to the Braille Note and the Pac Mate. All of these devices have their
peculiarities, and one must become accustomed to them in order to
achieve the desired results. All that I was attempting to say is, that
I truly understand how computers can frustrate individuals. Personally,
I rather enjoy puzzling out how to accomplish tasks.

Subject: [Braillenote] Richard Ring: Re computer attributes

Hey, all. I shared Richard's comments annonymously with a friend not on
this list and he brought some things to my attention which I want to
share.
First, computers are very forgiving, never chiding us for mistakes,
always
patient, always ready to have us try again and again. They are always
positive, going in the direction of helping their controllers. They are
always true to themselves and their operating systems. They get sick
less
than we do and are always willing to get help. We may never as
individuals
harness even a majority of their power and features but computers are
always
ready and competent to do what we ask and are always willing to go to
whatever depth we want. They never push us, however, to go beyond our
comfort zones. Also, artificial intelligence is off and running, has
been
for some time. Beth
