Hi Penny, I'll try to address your questions.
First of all, running the battery flat is done to keep the battery gauge accurate. The gage is what tells you when the battery is low or critical. Over time, as you charge and recharge the battery, this indicator can get off so that you may start to get battery low messages at maybe 20 percent or higher of the battery level. When this happens, you need to go into support information mode. To do this, get into the options menu with function plus o on the qt or space with o for the bt. Then to get to support mode do read with i on the qt or space with i on the bt. Finally press the letter f and the bn will start talking. This will continue until the battery is fully discharged. Once the speech stops (mercifully), and the braille display goes plank, plug in your charger without turning off the bn. Speech may start up again for a moment, but you should get a message saying something like discharge is complete. At that point you can exit to the main menu in the usual way and then turn off your bn to charge the battery or else continue working while it charges. I usually turn mine off at least for a while before doing further work with the bn, but it isn't required. As for the upgrade, I'd give humanware a call as I'm not sure if you would get the upgrade automatically if you have the software maintainance agreements, so best to check. As for wireless, yes, keysoft 6.1 definitely supports wireless networking. You do need to purchase a wireless card which will fit in either the pcmcia slot on the side of the bn or the compact-flash slot on the rear. The two cards currently supported by the bn under keysoft 6.1 are the Ambicom wl100-c-cf and the Cisco 340/350 series cards. The ambicom is a compact flash card fittting in the back of the unit while the Cisco card fits into the pcmcia slot. I use the Ambicon as it's easier to locate and is cheaper. I got mine for around $57 from Amazon.com and it's possible they may even be a bit cheaper elsewhere, but I've had good luck with amazon.com so went with them. You don't need anything else except a wireless network to connect to. <smile> Hope this is enough to get you started in the right direction. If not, just ask.
