Hello, Penny,
Your database is all the data you put into your computer. You usually put it into your "My Documents" folder or whatever folder is designated for data in your particular operating system. Your database includes and consists mostly of E-mails you have received and sorted into some kind of order. It also includes any data you download from the Internet, including graphics files if you have any. If you have any music or games, they are also part of your database. Just anything you feel like dumping into your computer is usually database or new software that goes into your Program Files.

A suggestion to avoid real problems if your hard drive breaks: Your hard drive will usually be partitioned into Drive C and Drive D. Drive C contains your complete operating system. Drive D is usually reserved for your database. Drive C receives a lot of wear and tear because of the operating system. Therefore, Drive C will fail first, and believe me, it will fail. Therefore, get into the habit of dumping every new data file you get into your D Drive. If your hard drive is not partitioned, use an auxiliary drive or storage card for your database.

Happy computing

Dick Myers

I've come across this database sometimes in my reading. What is it and what
does it do? I am sorry if this is just such a dumb question. I am just now
reading books, storing them, organizing them into author folders, putting
appointments into my planner, etc. I have been considering organizing some
things around here. I'd love to make a working searchable file of all my
cd's; cassettes; cd-roms, etc.
Is that what a database if sor? or is it just something that sits there and
helps the Braillenote and not me?
