Hi Ray and others interested in dialup with sbc,

I got mine to work. I can both receive and send email with the bn over the
dialup connection to sbc.

Note that I am using sbcglobal.net here in Northern California, so info on pop
and smtp servers may vary for other parts of the country. Obviously, I can't
guarantee that this will work elsewhere either, but it does work here so is
certainly worth a try.

Here are my settings in the directory of services entry for this connection.

the service name is whatever you like.

modem is the internal default modem.
phone number would be your local access number for sbc dialup.
service user name is the logon id. For me that's [EMAIL PROTECTED] and be sure
to include the entire domain and not just your userid.
Password is the password you use to log into sbc.
email user name is the complete username again, probably but not necessarily
the same as your service user name. Again, put the entire name including the
at sign and everything else after.
email password is the associated password with your email user name, probably
the same as your service password above.
pop server is, in my case, pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com but check to be sure that's
the pop server for your particular sbc domain.
smtp server is smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com but again, check to be sure that's the
smtp server you're supposed to use if you are in a different sbc domain.
Smtp authentication must be set to yes. (the default is no).
log onto network needs to be set to yes. (the default is no), but the default
would not work for me and I had to set this to yes in order to get the email to
work.
use software compression yes (the default).
Use IP header compression yes (the default).
Wait for dial tone yes.
Use a proxy server with this connection no

Leave the dns server fields blank.

That's it! The two settings that are really important here are the smtp
authentication which must be yes in order to send email, and also the log onto
network
which must be set to yes.

I found the connection process to be rather slow, but that just may have been
something local.

Hope this is of some help.

If something is unclear or if you have any questions, don't hesitate to write
me either on the list or privately.
