Hi to self and soul lunies,

This test looks at three aspects of this mailing list:

1. Whether attachment filtering is done on a per-attachment-name basis
per configuration of Mailman. This is achieved simply by sending the
EICAR testfile in the clear to see whether it is blocked or moderated.

2. Whether the system running the list software has any gateway virus
scanner in place that would detect the file by actual signature-based
reactive scanning.

3. Whether the attachment filtering purely works on the message size and
takes no regard of the MIME headers in the message.

You need do nothing. Simply disregard this message. It is for my
interest only and to calm any concern held by the list about the
inadequacy of any list policy regarding attachments.

Important! The file attached to this message is the 68-byte EICAR
testfile, which is a harmless but well-known virus testfile string. It is
not a virus, I am not trying to infect your machines. The testfile was
established as a way of allowing real-world testing of intrusion systems
without the use of malicious code being involved; that is, if your virus
scanner recognises the file, you will know firsthand what being infected
is like but you will come to no harm or will not fear or be held
irresponsible for further propagation of this file. For more information,
visit http://www.eicar.org/ .

If you are the list moderator, you can now delete this message. If you
are a list member, you can first stop yourself from reporting a virus on-
list, then delete this message.

Cheers,
Sabahattin
