Hi all,
Thanks Laura. I followed the steps you've said and I'm enjoying my time
reading in grade1.
I have a question here. Is there a way to avoid this tedious procedure
specially if I have a book that is divided to 30 chapters or more. Is there a
way to select all the chapters of a book and translate them at once?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers

  Hi there Khalid:

You cannot make the bn translate on the fly between contracted and
uncontracted braille, as you can between uncontracted and contracted braille.
However, you can do the following, and voila! have grade 1 files on your unit.
BTW, good job Riana with coming up with that idea!!!

Khalid, assuming you already have a .brf file stored somewhere on your unit,
do the following:
  1. From the main menu, press f to enter the file menu and t to enter the
translation menu.
  2. The third option on this menu reads "translate between braille and text".
Hit spacebar three times to come to this option, and press enter. This means
that if you select a text file, the bn will translate it to braille, and if you
select a braille file, the bn will translate it to text.
  3. You will then be asked for a source folder name, meaning the folder where
the document you wish to be translated currently is. If need be, hit backspace
to select the correct drive, and select the proper folder.
  4. Next, select the .brf file you wish to be translated. You will be
prompted for a foldername for the translated file, so, again, if you wish the
file to be placed on a different drive, hit backspace and make your selection.
Select the foldername and give the file a new name, and hit enter. You will
hear a series of beeps, depending on how large the file is, and finally
"translation complete."

You can now go back into keyword and erase the .brf file, since you now have
two copies of the file on your machine. Keep in mind that Riana is right,
these aren't grade I braille files, but text files, not that it makes much
difference. However, the formatting in the new file most likely will be
slightly off. HTH, and happy reading! Laura
