Hi, Riana.
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with putting the BN into ASCII. On my BN
QT 32, I was able to unzip all files in any zip file without making any
changes to text settings.
You cannot decompress rar files (rar files are not zip files at all,
so you can't unzip them anywhere) on the Braillenote. RAR files use a
different compression algorithm from zip, and cannot be decompressed by any
zip program without explicit support for RAR. If you need to decompress RAR
files, you can do so on any PC, as well as on Pocket PC devices like the
Pacmate and Linux based devices like the Elba.

Subject: [Braillenote] About zip files
Aman,
Unfortunately I have not zipped the files myself and i do not have the 7-zip
program. I tested this about a month ago and am not sure that I recall the
number of the error message correctly, but i think it was 117.
Unfortunately i deleted the files which did not want to unzip from my vn.
The reason why the person uses 7-zip, is because it can also unzip rar
files, but as far as i know, ultimate zip can also unzip them. Do you
perhaps know whether one would be able to unzip rar files, zipped with
ultimate zip, on the bn? I'm asking, as there is a site where blind readers
can download etext files, but most of them are in rar format. I presently
do not have a private pc running Windows, so I cannot test this and I do not
have web access at work.
Also, Brenda mentions in her message to the list, that she could unzip all
files, provided that the bn must be set to ascii. I'm not exactly sure what
is meant by that? Must the default for new documents be set to ascii,
because in the unzipping process one is nowhere prompted for a file type?
Sorry for all the questions, but I would very much like to be able to unzip
without a problem.
The only zip program i have access to at present, is Lyno zip. I'll send a
file zipped with that to my vn tomorrow and will post the results.
Thanks and regards
Riana
