Dear Laura,

The speech on my BN QT calls dots 4,5,6 underline. If you braille go 4,5,6
3,4 stop and you read the word, it will be pronounced, "go slash stop." If
you read the words letter by letter, the 4,5,6 symbol will be pronounced
"underline" and the 3,4 symbol will be pronounced s t.

When you translate a braille document which has dots 4,5,6 3,4 as the slash
sign, the text will translate as a slash.

The 4,5,6 sign is usually the computer braille underline sign. Dots 4,6 is
the italic sign. But if you use the underline sign in a text document and
later translate it into braille, Duxbury will translate dots 4,5,6 as dots
4,6.

I know this must sound confusing, but DBT knows the difference between 4,5,6
3,4 when it's used as a slash sign and dots 4,5,6 when it's used for
underline.

: Hi Terri,
: <grin> I have no idea why it did not work for you. placing a dot 4 or dots
: 4,5,6 yields an untranslates slash in my BN.
:
: However i would warn against using dots 4,5,6 in the future to act as a
"do
: not translate next character" symbol since it is also the "italic on/of"
: symbol for dbt, am i wrong on this? At least, this is what the speech
: confirms. This is what some of us found to be one of the problems when ks
: 5.0 was marketed--we could no longer make a plain underline symbol, or the
: Bn would speak "italic on/italic off" HTH, Laura
