As a follow up, i checked, an it is not showing exactly what it didn't show last time it had this problem. In the main menu, it will display main menu, but not word processor. it will display the next few items, but not internet. This is exactly what it did the first time it had this problem. and the problem had developed when the BN was less than a year old, but unfortunately, I didn't get it in to be fixed till a couple years later. At first I didn't use it all that much. Now it is an indispensable part of my stuff when I travel, go to appointments locally, on the job, or just for reading. I am really unhappy about this happening again. Sigh.

Do I have to send this in for repair? if so, I guess my BN days are history for a while, because i certainly can't afford it right now.
