A stand-alone Braille display needs screen reader software to drive it,
so in that sense the display has software. If you plug in a desktop
Braille display and don't have a screen reader like JAWS or Window-Eyes,
you ain't gonna get Braille on that display. But in the Braille PDA's,
this is all integrated into the operating system. What happened to Tom's
file is a memory problem, a brain drip, or whatever you want to call it.
It is a reminder to us all to back things up like our lives depended on
it.

No, the Braille display doesn't have software. It's pretty much
equivalent to a monitor, or to your VoiceNotes speaker. Trust me, this
horrible thing can happen to *anyone*, including users of VoiceNotes.
It's happened to me three times, and while I have a BrailleNote, I know
it had nothing to do with a Braille display. Richard Ring is absolutely
correct, it would be like blaming a monitor for a computer failure.

Maybe, but the display has to have software doesn't it?

Monitors don't have software really. Maybe I'm wrong here on this. I
know
nothing about the technicalities of braille displays.

Saying a Braille display damaged files is like a sighted user saying
that the files were erased by a monitor. The Braille displays an output
device, it displays the information that is sent to it by whatever
software is involved, in this case, Keysoft.

Nope, sorry, this is most definitely a memory issue. If it was a
display issue, I would have been able to see the data on my PC. The
data was definitely gone.
