Hi Kim;
Just remember, no matter how dumb or smart your question is, there is
someone new on the e-mail you are helping too. It took me a while to open
up to this group, but now, if I don't understand it, I ask my BN friends.
Welcome to the group!

Dick,

Mind? Oh not at all! This list is incredibly friendly. I recently purchased
a Nokia 6620 cell phone and Talks software. I'm on the talks e-mail support
list, and the moderator of that group eluded to the fact that my
elementary-level questions regarding the Talks program were unwelcome. After
that, I was afraid to post much of anything. Now I just lurk on that list
and e-mail people privately if I have questions about a topic they've
brought up.

Kim

Hello, Kim,
I am all for people helping you. That is what this list is for. however, I

do not think the help should be given to only you through private
correspondance. Many of us would like to know the answers to the questions
you are asking. Let's keep the Q and A sessions on the list. I hope you
don't mind.

Subject: [Braillenote] new braillenote user looking for a few good "mentors"

Greetings,

I just purchased a BrailleNote and, with no training readily available to
me, am attempting to teach myself to use the unit via the PulseData tech
support line and the manuals that accompany the unit. I'm thrilled with the
machine, but also realize what a steep learning curve I'm experiencing. When

it comes to computers, I'm not always the sharpest tack in the box unless
someone specifically explains various concepts to me. (Then I have
absolutely no difficulty catching on).

Rather than disturbing all of you proficient users with my beginner's
prattle, I'm wondering if a few people might be willing to step forward and
e-mail me privately--a few good people willing to serve as braillenote
"mentors" during this next month until I get myself truly up and running.

All I can promise in return is that I'll gladly return the favor once I'm
proficient in using the BrailleNote.

My initial questions are these (which all of you proficient BrailleNote
users are going to find are really "scary"!!!:

1. I can find absolutely nothing in the BN manuals or help menus about how
to delete a document. I find "delete word", "delete sentence"--but nothing
about deleting the entire document. I assumed it would be listed in the same

menu as "open a document", but it doesn't appear to be there.

2. With the assistance of tech support, I figured out how to insert the WiFi

card (now--setting WiFi up so that I can use it at my local Borders is a
different story.) However, the tech couldn't get through to me how to insert

the compact flash card. I know it goes into the back slot, where the WiFi
card can also be inserted, but beyond that. . .

3. How does one install upgrades? I'm not all that great at cabling to other

computers, Etc., so I'm hoping it can all be done with the stand-alone unit.

(I'm absolutely getting the disk drive as soon as the bugs are fixed.)

This is just the beginning of the many questions I can't find answers to in
the manuals.

If anyone is willing to assist me, my e-mail address is:

Many thanks in advance.
