I've heard this said too about the paqmate that it's speech drains more
than the braille.

I don't know why this is, but I have used two entirely different
notetakers, one of them being the BN, and my battery went down faster
when I had speech on with both of them.

It's a fact that speech does in fact take more energy than Braille, the
current required to run a Braille display is less.

How can speech take up more energy than braille, when with braille you
have to have more power, I would think, for the relays which make the
dots go up and down all the time.

You and I have very similar BN circumstances. I, too, have a PCMCIA
storage card and a CompactFlash card in my BN and the battery does go
down rather quickly when you do a lot of reading. After about 2 hours
my battery, after being fully charged, goes down to around 77 percent.
You probably know this, but speech uses a lot more battery life than
Braille does. Hope this helps.

Sarah

Thanks Sarah I only asked as when I used it on battery it seemed to go
down
to eightysix per cent in about an hour or too of use. I just hope the
water
has not done any more damage than we thought. I do have a compact flash
card and a storage card in the bn though. thanks anyway.
