There was a time when that would have seemed like a good idea. However, although like many I go to Radio Shack when I need some kind of cables or cable adapters, I have to say that the folks who work there these days wouldn't know a soldering iron from a curling iron, and I wouldn't want them messing with such an expensive device as a Braillenote.

I used to routinely upgrade my braille and speak every year. Dean Blazie knew that I could change the chip withut any problems; so he would send it to me whenever I would buy an upgrade. Regarding the battery, I wouldn't mind buying my batteries from PDI. That doesn't bother me, but paying 60 dollars so I can send in my unit overnight and insured just to get a battery replacement is expensive. It would be nice if the battery just had a clip rather than having to solder connections. For those of us who feel we can replace memory or batteries confidently, I'd like to see a way for this to be done. Others could still just send in their units. I don't even mind being told that if I replace a battery or memory that if I do it, I do it at my own risk. That's only fair. But if the batteries could be easily replaced, why not? If one could use a chip puller to replace a chip, why not? I wouldn't even mind if I had to buy a chip replacement tool from PDI.
