Hi Michele and list,
I managed to try out the LG VX4500 phone which I'd report back to you
about. It does have a serial cable available for it which can be connected
to the BN. Its speech features are greatly limited as I see it! One is
able to hear the time of day, the number of the caller as the call is
coming in provided the ringers aren't selected, new message is spoken when
one has new messages in their voicemail, a very limited help feature which
attempts to summarize how the voice modes work. This phone is very good
for voice activation. One can simply tell the phone to dial their
voicemail, dial a specific number or contacts in the phone book etc. Based
on what I have been able to find out in a shourt period of time, scrolling
through menus and hearing where one might be isn't possible! If one heard
a number while the call was coming in, there is no way to audibly go back
and hear that number again. There doesn't seem to be a good way to set up
the phonebook independently without sighted assistance as I see
it! It is hard to know which features may be on or off! I think they
might be on the right track with this phone but they have a long way to
go. It certainly may be okay for someone who has some vision and it may be
useful to some who would rather dial a number verbally! I'm not certain
that the audio was the greatest on that phone. It did have good minature
piano keys for dialing! I would say the phone is a bit complicated to
use! I'm very happy to be using my V60S phone again. I think I would wait
till another phone with better verbal capabilities comes on the
market. I'm very pleased that Verizon let me give this phone a try!
Please feel free to Email me privately if you have more questions.
