PLANTATION  BISCUITS


2 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk

  Sift dry ingredients.  Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse 
cornmeal.  Add milk all at once.  Stir just enough until dough follows fork 
around bowl.  Place dough on floured surface and roll until 1/2" thick.  Use 
biscuit cutter or drinking glass dipped in flour to cut biscuits.  Bake at 400 
degrees for 12 minutes.  Makes 14 to 16 biscuits.
