About a year ago, I registered the domain name vanbaardwijk.com through
Namezero. Recently I tried to transfer the domain to an other Registrar
(Arbor Domains). What followed did not make me happy... :-(
I thought it would be easy: all I would have to do was file a Domain
Transfer Request with Arbor Domains, confirm it, and confirm the message
from the current Registrar. (And of course: pay Arbor Domains the fee.)
Theoretically, that would be enough. But that is just theory...
First, it turned out that Namezero is not an ICANN-accredited Registrar;
when you register a domain name through them, they enter it in the database
of VeriSign/Network Solutions (NSI) -- the Registrar from Hell. The
procedure goes as follows: you register through Namezero, pay Namezero the
fee, Namezero then enters the domain name in NSI's database and pays NSI
the fee. NSI then becomes the actual Registrar.
OK, fine with me. No problem. Unfortunately, NSI refused to carry out the
transfer because "the registration fee has not been paid". Ever since, I
have been e-mailing back and forth with Arbor Domains, Namezero and NSI.
The guy at Arbor Domains did what he could and offered a few possible
solutions (neither of which worked, thanks to NSI), but was not going to
contact NSI directly to solve my problem. Namezero keep pointing the finger
at NSI, saying that they paid NSI and that NSI need to update their records
(which, according to Namezero, they often fail to do). NSI keep pointing at
Namezero, telling me that I should contact *them*, not NSI.
Bottom line is: I am screwed. Neither Namezero nor NSI seems willing to do
anything to solve the problem, and I will have to renew the registration
through Namezero for another year which will cost me more than it would if
the transfer had been successful. Given these experiences, I expect the
same problem to occur when transferring Brin-L.com to an other Registrar.
So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve all this? Right now, I
welcome anything, from recommendations for an other Registrar who *will* do
battle with NSI for me, to a name plus phone number plus e-mail address of
someone at NSI who can and will solve the problem.
One of my options is to let the domain name expire; does anyone know how
long it will take after that before NSI release the domain name, thus
making it available again for registration?
TIA
