Yes, car maintenance/repair is a good source of
analogies - as is lawn care (clogged or kinked hoses,
need for proper fertilizer, getting rid of weeds etc).
Watch the headlights turn on!  ;)

Seriously, you do need to get to know and be
comfortable with your clinician, and become educated
about your condition/illness, especially if it is
chronic/severe.
