A little while ago, we noticed an odor. Dan was in Sammy's room (at the
back of the house) and I was in my office (also at the back of the house, on
a different floor); at both locations, we smelled skunk.

Dan came downstairs and noticed the odor again in the kitchen. He turned to
me (I'd walked into the kitchen to say something about the smell to him) and
asked, "Do you smell skunk?" I responded affirmatively. "Are the dogs
outside?" Again, affirmative.

So he went into the utility room, closed the door to the rest of the house
behind him, and called the dogs in. Miranda came fairly promptly. She
didn't smell of skunk, but she smelled strongly of something else. Vaguely
more vegetable in odor, IMO, than animal. She had blood on her face and on
one paw, but didn't seem to be hurt. Briana took more time in coming in.
*She* had some green on her, presumably from vegetation, but what sort
exactly I don't know.

Dan, deciding they were too stinky to be given run of the house, exited the
utilty room by the outside door and came to the back door. I joined him on
the back patio and we both sniffed. No skunk. (It's windy enough, it
probably had dissipated by then if it weren't within one or two lots of
us.) But the dogs still stunk. Dan went back to lock the door from the
outside, we set up a gate to keep the dogs confined to the utility/guest
bath area, and I got appropriate towels out. He's washing dogs now.

I don't know what the heck happened, but it's interesting. :P I'm just
hoping that Thumper wasn't involved, or I could have some interesting
allergy issues in the utility room tomorrow. (Very allergic to rabbit
hair. *Very* allergic.)

waiting for her snack to be heated and hoping to find a spot downstairs that
the stink hasn't really gotten to when it's ready to eat
