"Why do we always come here, I guess we'll never know, its a kind of
torture to make these picks you know?" Now that I'm off to my worst
picking start ever, at this point, I might be able to do better by
flipping a coin. Last week, I went 7-7 leaving me at 23 - 46, an even
.500 for the season. Of course, the UPSET SPECIAL is not doing well
either, dropping to 1-2 amidst all the carnage.

Oddly enough, despite my failures picking the games, my Fantasy Football
team is above .500 for the first time in three years... so at least the
season isn't a total wash. Anyhow, for this weeks games.....

Philadelphia at BUFFALO - Could the Eagles really go to 0-3? Ordinarily,
I'd give an edge to the desperate team, but Philadelphia is really banged
up, particularly on defense. The last time the Bills faced an similarly
injury-riddled defense, they clobbered the Jaguars, and that was on the
road. Pick: Bills

Cincinnati at CLEVELAND - The Browns are coming off a huge road win, and
are now starting their mutli-million dollar first-overall draft pick backup
Tim Couch. Although I'd normally like the Bengals to get their first win
here, Tom Couch's career is over if he loses this game. Pick: Browns

Arizona at ST. LOUIS - The Cardinals' win over the Packers reflects more on
the inadequacies of the Pack than any possibility that the Cards might be
good this season. Lamar Gordon should be a more than competent backup for
Marshall Faulk, andn his running should give the Rams in what may be a
surprisingly close game. Pick: Rams

San Francisco at MINNESOTA - Yes, the Vikings are 3-0, but all their games
have been against what is without a doubt the weakest division in all of
football. Despite the differences in record, I think that the 49ers are
the better team, and Culpepper is hurting for Minnesota. Pick: 49ers

Tennessee at PITTSBURGH - The Titans looked for real beating up on the
Saints at home last week, and the Steelers looked for real with their
performance in Kansas City in the first half. Ultimately, I think that
Eddie George probably doesn't have two good games in a row left in the
tank, and the Steelers are at home. Pick: Steelers

New England at WASHINGTON - The Patriots plan on asking the American Red
Cross to open a field office with their team while they're in the Nation's
Capitol. Pick: Redskins

Atlanta at CAROLINA - If the Panthers win this one, I'll truly believe that
they might be for real. Until then, I still believe that the Vick-less
Falcons are the better team. Pick: Falcons

Kansas City at BALTIMORE - It really is amazing how bettors can fall in
love with the Baltimore Ravens, making them only 3-point dogs to the best
team in football. Sorry, but despite the two wins the Ravens still have
a rookie QB who has looked cover-your-eyes ugly so far this year, and will
not be able to keep pace with the Chiefs' high-paced attack. Pick: Chiefs

Jacksonville at HOUSTON - Speaking of strange spreads, how have the
cover-your-eyes-ugly Jaguars who have been blown out for two straight
weeks, and are giving a rookie his first NFL start on the road become a
three-point favorite? The Texans should have put everyone on notice with
their win in Miami... Pick: Texans UPSET SPECIAL

San Diego at OAKLAND - Well, if the Chargers go to 0-4, you can stick a
fork in my Super Bowl prediction, because iit will be done. (Note to self
- why not Kansas City, why not Kansas City!) The Chargers are in total
disarray, with only one healthy wideout - undrafted free agent Eric Parker
- and three injuries on the offensive line. Still, I am nothing if not
stubborn, and the Raiders have problems of their own. Pick: Chargers

Detroit at DENVER - The Broncos should never even need to think about using
Clinton Portis in this laugher. Pick: Broncos

Dallas at NEW YORK JETS - Bill Parcells has played two games in three
weeks, both in the New Jersey Meadowlands - as head coach of the Cowboys.
The Jets are in a world of trouble - if they go into their bye at 0-4
their season is effectively over. I'll give the edge to the desperate
team at home. Pick: Jets

Indianapolis at NEW ORLEANS - The Colts look for real to me, especially
with Reggie Wayne making an effective tag-team for Marvin Harrison. The
Saints, meanwhile, are picking up the pieces after an utter debacle in
Nashville last week.
Pick: Colts

Green Bay at Chicago - Soldier Field rises again this week, but the Packers
are getting healthy, and should be mad as heck after losing to Arizona last
week. This should be a thriller, but I see the Packers playing spoiler, I
think... Pick: Packers
