A group of 26 former U.S. diplomats and military officials -- many
from Republican administrations -- plan to call for President Bush's
defeat in November.
The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday the group plans to issue a
signed statement Wednesday saying Bush has damaged America's national
security and should be defeated.

The group, calling itself the Diplomats and Military Commanders for
Change, does not endorse presumptive presidential Democratic candidate
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., although some individual signers have done
so.

"It is clear that the statement calls for the defeat of the
administration," said William Harrop, ambassador to Israel under
President Bush's father and one of the group's principal organizers.

The Bush re-election campaign deferred comment until the statement is
released.
