Me too!  Not only to play music on the PC, but as my interface with my iPod.

Haven't noticed the problem; data base is about 8000 with almost 7000 on my
iPod.

Havn't notice this either.  I did have a problem with "409" by the Beach
Boys; turns out the problem is on the CD too.  Go figure!

I wish I had more control over this, but I'm not as annoyed as you seem to
be.

Think of switching to m4a for better compression and therefore more music on
the iPod, but I may get myself a new 60 gig for Christmas

I use my iPod more than I use iTunes to play music on the PC.
