Many people liked Bush because they thought he was like an average guy (yuck yuck yuck!) and we see where that has brought us. I don't think a president needs to be one-of-the-boys to be effective, he/she needs to be able to analyze and roll with change to be effective and that skill set does not require charisma, just better than average intellect.
