We're done until the wedding. Prospective Marriage Visa has been
granted. Then we have to go back, and it gets changed to a Spouse
Visa (Temporary). Then in two years after that, you go back, and it
gets changed to a Spouse Visa (Permanent). The last is the one where
they grill you, apparently.
My wife is German, and when she got US permanent resident
status it was not that easy. We did multiple trips to
the immigration office, where one had to arrive a couple
hours before it opened just to get an appointment.
Fortunately, we lived pretty close to an office.
It's slightly easier being British going into Oz than most other
nationalities (Kiwis are the one that's easier, and that's cause
Kiwis have automatic residency and work rights in Australia), and
certainly a lot easier than for just about anyone to go to the
States, even Canadians (should have seen the traumas Kat went through
to get her Canadian beau into the US).
Well, obviously if an American prefers a furriner to a red-blooded
American there is something wrong with them.
But seriously, congratulations on the upcoming wedding and good luck
with all the associated problems, government-caused or not . . .

I never dreamed that I would see the last.
