While my analysis is lacking, I don't agree with your pessimisms. I have a totally subjective slant on this, in that The Engineer self-identifies as a republican (small r) and was relieved that Edwards was chosen. Oregon is one of those states up for grabs (oh joy, we get visits from both sides with all the hoopla and their rolling barricades on the streets) and his vote will certainly be important. And I believe I heard on NPR during the primaries that Edwards was well respected by moderate republicans. And furthermore, David, stop putting out all that bad energy =+)).
