The key point is that we follow guidance, local communities will not
appreciate any possible infection, not just people bringing it to Bristol
but taking it home with them. If the tour is to go ahead then people need to
take the precautions put in place seriously, we are talking about peoples
livelihoods here.
It would be helpful to know where Tour 1 is actually going to be held, I
don't recall many venues "in the city" that could host a big tournament, so
it could be "out in the sticks" or at least close to livestock. This
information will help us make a sensible and responsible decision.
If Tour 1 goes ahead, are there contingency plans for teams who are unable
to attend due to foot & mouth (west country, wales, northwest england,
Wiltshire seem to be worst affected)so they are not penalised for something
out of their own control?
For information, Tour 1 is in Bristol but that is only 40 miles from
Swindon. There are a number of farms affected in this area, and some
exclusion zones, all public areas outside of the town are off limits, and we
have the first possible prosecution of people under the 1983 Foot & Mouth
Act (ignoring signs and entering a closed area). According to the local
paper in Swindon large areas of Bristol are also closed,residents of Bristol
will be able to confirm this.
Keep us informed and lets make a decision/give more guidance asap.
